"Giles Corey's Stoned Soul"
If the name Giles Corey sounds familiar, it should. He’s been playing to tough crowds in the bars and clubs of Chicago for years now. He has also shared his guitar and vocal stylings with numerous artists including Mississippi Heat, Otis Rush, Magic Slim, Eddy Clearwater, and many more.
Giles Corey’s Stoned Soul is Giles’ Delmark Records debut as the leader of his own band. The album’s thirteen songs clock in at just under an hour, allowing listeners plenty of time to indulge themselves in the soulful treats it contains. Personnel here are Giles Corey – vocals and guitar, Marty Sammon – piano, organ, and vocals, and Joewaun Scott on bass. Rounding things out are Rick King on drums and percussion, Pat Otto on mandola, and on backing vocals we have Diane Madison, Mae Koen, and Nanette Frank. Production by Giles Corey is excellent, and the mix by Steve Wagner and Dave Katzman sounds superb.
